The challenge.
The client’s organization was
spread across three sites, with each site having a concentrated
function within the investment banking domain – Hartford
(third-party money management and equity trading), New York
(alternate assets) and Atlanta (general account assets and fixed
income trading).
The project required development of applications used by
portfolio managers and traders to provide interface with legacy
systems. The engagement was concentrated around re-writing the
applications originally written using Power builder/Oracle 8.0. For
the rewriting, we used Microsoft .NET platform/SQL Server 2000. Most
of these applications are very data intensive and have a complex
back-end for data analysis, predictions and reporting. The
applications front-end have a set of very simple screens to invoke
these functions and reports. The engagement also expected certain
ad-hoc changes to these applications based on the feedback from
portfolio managers and traders (the eventual end users of these
programs).
Our solution.
We set up an
onsite presence at all three sites and our onsite coordinators
engaged in requirement gathering and design validations with the
client’s team. The remaining lifecycle activities are carried out
offshore with acceptance testing happening onsite with the help of
coordinator.
Our team also uploads all the domain/technical documents in our
client knowledge portal – an in-house knowledge management tool.
The results.
- The client leverage our knowledge-portal developed in-house by
working with some of the leaders in their respective industry.
- Our domain knowledge and technical competence ensured
minimal effort from the client to scale up and broaden the
scope
of the project.
