The challenge.
An economic downturn had
forced our client to right-size its application development team for
its existing maintenance and support activities. The client had a
large base of Internet and Intranet applications that were being
heavily used. It was an imperative to ensure that these applications
were adequately supported as per the prescribed service levels. The
client had no prior experience in outsourcing these types of mission
critical applications, which typically had frequent releases and
required setting up of heterogeneous environments.
We offered to transition the maintenance and development of these
web applications to our software factory in India and hence help the
client considerably reduce costs.
Our solution.
We transitioned the ten web
applications offshore in only eight months -
the first phase was
commissioned in three months for three key
applications. We
approached the transition of these applications from
the client
site to its off-shore factory in Delhi in a phased manner.
• Overall transition discovery
• Phase discovery
•
Knowledge transfer
• Commissioning
• Maintenance/commence
support
The results.
• A 40% reduction in overhead,
operating and training costs.
• Internal IT resources freed for
new development, integration initiatives
and more business
specific functions.
• The IT strategy shift from value
maintenance to value creation enabled
greater focus on
core competencies.
• Improved compliance to the SLAs and other
benchmarks.
